David Hutches is an Enterprise Architect in UC San Diego's central information technology services unit; in this capacity, he provides broad expertise in the design, planning, and deployment of current and future state technical solutions campus-wide. He is also deeply involved in the evolution of the forward-looking organizational architecture required to provide local and cloud-based technical services to a diverse community of students, researchers, educators, and administrators in an agile and flexible fashion. A specific area of responsibility is Enterprise Data Architecture, which includes all aspects of the collection, dissemination, and analysis of core campus information to create a culture of data-driven decision making, and improve student success and engagement. A particular interest is the use of rich campus data sets to drive discovery via machine learning and other analytical techniques. David participates on a variety of committees, working groups, task forces, and advisory bodies at the campus and UC System levels, and serves as a liaison between the university's business and academic communities. David received a B.S. from Loyola University, New Orleans, with a double major in computer science and philosophy, an M.S. in computer science from the University of Florida, and a Ph.D. in computer science from UC San Diego.
